Curiosity - Love of Learning - Perseverance

Lionel Maizels graduated from NSC in 2019, and has achieved a great deal in his years at NSC (particularly in the STEM field). He is a very active advocate for Science, and has run activities for past Open nights and assisted with VCE Information evenings (for both Physics and Chemistry). The NSC STEM Centre opened in mid-2019, and Lionel assisted with the set-up of the new STEM resources, helped out in the STEM club, and attended the Chemistry study group sessions most Thursdays to help students out. In 2020 he will return to tutor students in Maths, Physics and Chemistry during university breaks. He has achieved High Distinctions in the ICAS Science and Australian National Chemistry Quiz for the last few years, and has participated in the Titration Competition every year since Year 10. In 2019, he won the Principal’s Award for his performance in the ICAS Science competition. In addition to these STEM endeavours, Lionel has been committed to for Scouts the past 10 years and is currently in the age group of Venturers. In 2019 he was awarded the Queen’s Scout Award; the highest award in the Venturers Scout section, demonstrating high levels of success in the areas of Leadership Development, Outdoors Activities, Personal Growth and Community Involvement.
