Share your thoughts to help inform the review of our General Local Law.
Councils use Local Laws to respond to issues and community needs within a municipality.
These local laws complement their responsibilities and powers under both state and federal laws. Where appropriate, council may introduce local laws, or by-laws, to exercise these powers. Local laws are often adopted to protect public health, public safety, accessibility and amenity in a municipality.
Any local laws passed by Council are designed to ensure that the actions of an individual or group do not have an adverse impact on the rest of the community, and only apply within the municipality in which they are passed, though many councils share similar laws. Sometimes other agencies such as Victoria Police can be authorised to address activities nominated in the Local Law.
Local Laws have a 10 year life unless it is revoked sooner or renewed to remain valid. This ensures that local laws remain current and suitable to the purpose for which they were originally made and to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our community and address any new or emerging issues.
We would like your feedback on current and new issues impacting you or your family in Maroondah. Council would like to understand what's important to you about public safety and the amenity of the streets and neighbourhood where you live, work, play or study.
Your feedback will help us to ensure the General Local Law is relevant and continues to meet the needs of our community now and into the future.

Formal submission process
Council engages with our Maroondah community in many ways. Some consultations require a formal submission process for items requiring a Council resolution. These include making a local law, budget processes, special charges or the renaming of a street. Find out more about the formal submission process.
